Boy Scout Troop 562 of Woodridge, IL

Welcome to Our Website!

Image

We are Troop 562, serving Woodridge, Lisle and the surrounding area. Our Troop is very active... every month of the year. We camp every month, we have a hike every month and we meet every week, with at least one meeting of each month taking place outside of our usual meeting place, doing something outside of our usual routine. We participate in high adventure treks, National Jamborees and the Order of the Arrow. Most importantly, we do all of these things because that is what the scouts in our Troop have chosen to do. The scouts choose the activities, plan the activities and execute those plans, because we are a Scout Run Troop, in every sense of that term.

Our Troop meets at Goodrich school in Woodridge on Thursday evenings; at the school during the school year and elsewhere in the summer and have a very active program with a full calendar of interesting activities geared toward excitement, fun and growth.

Our Troop is strongly focused on the patrol method , and is a youth-run organization. We see the role of the adults in the Troop as one of helping the Scouts to learn how to become leaders; to be responsible and to plan and execute their own activities. With this in mind, our leaders teach leadership and planning skills to the Scouts, and allow the Scouts to learn how to run the activities themselves. Our supervision provides the safety net for the Scouts while allowing them enough room to learn through their own successes and mistakes. We are very character based , and see Scouting as an ideal program for helping boys learn to become the sort of men that others will respect and look up to.

Please explore our website and see what we have been up to. You will also find information about scouting programs, skills, knot tying, gear and other things of interest to scouts.

Come see us some time!

April Campout: Rock Cut State Park
Written by Luke P.
Monday, 29 November 1999

When we got there it was kinda dark out. Then like 15 minutes later it was pitch black! It was kind of hard to pitch a tent in the dark! For dinner that night, we had fruit cups! On Saturday morning I had to get up at 6:00! Because I had to help make breakfast which was peachy french toast! It was so good! Then after we ate breakfast, we set up an axe yard for the new patrol to work on getting their totin' chip. I think it went great! Then we made a fire and for lunch we had grilled cheese! After lunch we went on a hike and we had to orient a map! It was awesome! After the hike we just hung around the camp until dinner which was onion chicken which was amazing! For dessert, we had monkey bread! Some people said it wan't cooked all the was cooked. In the morning we had sereal, got packed up, and went on a hike and came back home!  Attendees: Luke P., Alex, CJ, Jacob, Josh, Travis, Mr. B., Mr. P., Colton, Owen and Mikey.

Congratulations to Colton A., for becoming our newest Eagle Scout. Colton passed his Eagle board of review, officially becoming an Eagle Scout on December 9th, 2010. His Eagle project was at the Morton Arboretum, clearing out invasive non-native plants from an area on the East side, so that native plantings could survive and re-populate the area.

Eagle Cave 2010
Written by Brendan M.
Tuesday, 16 February 2010

Ever wish you could cozy up in a cave, or see bats right from your sleeping bag. Well in February that is what the 5 boys and 2 adults of troop 562 did over the weekend. The 4 hour drive took us upon winding roads, and scary towns, then after we reached our cave. When we first got there we were wondering where the smell of sewage was coming from, and who owned the friendly, but elderly dog on the porch. After about an hour we were in the cave, and everyone lighted up in  a nano-second with breath taking rocks, and what natural does under the soil. That we did most of the weekend; explored the cave with dirt and rocks, provided a happy face for most of us and we pretended to be archeologists for just a little while; enough to the point it was a career goal for us, maybe an adult or 2 considered. Another good thing, was that we didn’t have to cook, but most of our personal preferences were food from a scout. The time spent out of the cave was doing things like playing games, eating, bird watching, playing games, going in the snow, playing games, petting the dog, and did I mention playing games. The weekend was a success, and everyone had a good time, and at the end, mothers faces were smiling looking at the dirty faces, and clothes, but they have to remember, some tide, and bleach will clean it up.
