Wow, what an interesting weekend! We camped at Cantigny for this month's outing; our first time in the spring time (this has usually been a winter campout for us). It was nice to be able to tour the grounds in warmer weather for a change and the museum was interesting as always. We had a guest for this outing; Walter, the owner of Churrasco Restaurant in Villa Park offered to come out to this camp to show us how to do Brazilian barbeque. It was fantastic. He brought about 20 pounds of steaks and some enormous bags of pine charcoal. He showed us how to set up the fire pit and got the coals going. then he started cutting steaks (the cut was called "culottes") for the scouts and had the boys cut their own steaks from the big cut of meat. Then he showed everyone how to season and cook the meat over the open pit, telling stories all the while about the Brazilian vaqueros and how they lived on the range. He also told stories from his days in the Brazilian special forces over in Iraq (the first Gulf War) and was very engaging as he joined us on our tour of the First Division Museum. Walter was a very generous guy and very interesting and entertaining. Thanks to him, for making this outing special and we look forward to visiting his restaurant some time.
